From the President’s desk:
Tucson IMA community, greetings! We hope that you are having a pleasant summer. Your IMA Tucson Chapter is pleased to announce another year of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) activities, beginning in September, with subsequent monthly sessions extending into next year up to May 2018. While some of the topical presentations are still under consideration, we expect that all sessions will be of great professional value to participants. Earlier this summer we surveyed our members for input on CPE topics of interest; it is not too late if you wish to make suggestions, please email us at…TucsonIMA@gmail.com… we still have flexibility in our schedule to incorporate topics of interest. In the meantime, please refer to the list in the Events section, save the dates and plan to join us for the first session on September 20, 2017 at the Viscount Hotel, for a great presentation on Proposition 206, Minimum Wage and Sick Time rules.
During the 2016-2017 year, we benefited from excellent presentations by knowledgeable speakers from a variety of local businesses. We sincerely thank the participants who joined us for those sessions. This year, the Chapter will again offer CPE sessions in diverse subject matters. We recognize that the functional role of accounting and financial professionals often evolves along with career advancement; financial professionals therefore benefit from gaining knowledge in business areas that extend beyond typical core accounting issues.
Planned activities include participation in joint sessions with visiting IMA professionals from the Wild West Council (WWC), who will be having their regional meeting in Tucson in October. You are invited to join us in meeting the out of town colleagues visiting our city, and enjoying the educational sessions involved, among them a very interesting presentation from a speaker from the Tucson Airport Authority. Our website will provide more details in the days ahead. Incidentally, with support from IMA national, the Tucson Chapter is finalizing arrangements for a new website that we anticipate will serve our Chapter’s needs much better in the future.
I would like to express gratitude to my colleague board members for their continued support and caring leadership of Chapter’s business during the past and current year: Jennifer Serrano (Board Secretary), Michael Fuller (Membership VP), James Weingart (Board Member and Website director); Curtis Thelen (Treasurer), Don Hartman (WWC Regional Council Delegate). One of our main goals this year is to increase our slate of volunteers to assist in managing our Chapter’s affairs over the year, and possibly take on board membership positions to continue our Chapter into the future. We would love to hear from you if you are interested, please email us or talk to any board member at any of the monthly CPE sessions. See you there!
